Or ask me — I can…

850,000+ Americans flew abroad for dental work last year. Here's how to decide if dental implants abroad are right for you.
As an American, you're paying the highest dental implant prices in the world. A single implant runs ,000-,000. The same treatment abroad costs -,500. Here's where to go and how to do it safely.
850,000 Americans flew abroad for dental work in 2025. Most of them needed implants.
But price alone isn't the reason to go. And price alone isn't a reason to stay home either. Here's how to figure out whether dental implants abroad actually make sense for your situation.
This Guide Is for You If...
- You need 2+ implants and your insurance caps at $1,500/year
- You've been quoted $20,000+ for All-on-4 and want to know your options
- You're uninsured or underinsured and need major dental work
- You've already researched dental tourism but want specific guidance for Americans
- You want to use HSA or FSA funds for treatment abroad
This Guide Is NOT for You If...
- You need a single implant and have good insurance coverage — the savings won't justify the trip
- You have complex medical conditions requiring close local monitoring (uncontrolled diabetes, recent heart surgery, active cancer treatment)
- You need ongoing orthodontic work (braces, aligners) that requires monthly adjustments
- You're uncomfortable flying — dental tourism requires at least one international trip, sometimes two
How much do Americans save on dental implants abroad?
Here's what Americans actually pay — at home versus abroad:
| Treatment | USA | Turkey | Hungary | Your Savings |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Implant (MIS/Osstem) | $4,000 | $500-750 | $750-1,000 | $3,000-3,500 |
| Premium Implant (Straumann) | $5,000 | $600-1,100 | $800-1,500 | $3,500-4,400 |
| All-on-4 (Full Arch) | $25,000 | $5,200-9,500 | $6,800-12,200 | $15,500-19,800 |
| All-on-6 (Full Arch) | $30,000 | $6,800-12,200 | $8,800-15,600 | $14,400-23,200 |
| Bone Graft | $1,500 | $200-480 | $270-610 | $890-1,300 |
| Sinus Lift | $2,500 | $340-680 | $480-880 | $1,620-2,160 |
Add $500-1,200 for round-trip flights and 5-7 nights accommodation in Turkey. Even with travel costs, most Americans save $2,500+ per implant.
"Factor in flights, hotel, and potential return trips when comparing prices. I still saved over $15,000 on my All-on-4 — and the hotel was nicer than my apartment." — Dental tourism patient
Can you use HSA or FSA funds for dental work abroad?
Yes. HSA (Health Savings Account) and FSA (Flexible Spending Account) funds can be used for medically necessary dental treatment performed abroad. Dental implants qualify as medically necessary when they replace missing teeth.
What you need for reimbursement:
- Itemised invoice from the clinic (in English, with procedure codes)
- Clinical records and treatment plan
- Proof of payment (credit card statement or receipt)
- Your dentist's letter confirming the treatment was medically necessary
Keep everything. Your HSA administrator may ask for documentation months later.
Important: US dental insurance does NOT cover treatment performed outside the US. But if you're paying out of pocket anyway — which most implant patients are, given the $1,500 annual cap — insurance coverage is irrelevant.
How do you verify dental clinics abroad are legitimate?
This is the number one concern we hear from American patients. And it's completely valid — you're sending money to a clinic in another country that you've never visited, based on a website you can't fully verify. Some patients in the UK have told us they don't even believe the clinics exist.
That's exactly why MyDentalFly exists. We don't just list clinics and hope for the best.
We've met the clinics. Every clinic on MyDentalFly has been vetted through direct contact — in-person meetings, online video calls, or both. We've spoken to the dentists, toured the facilities (in person or virtually), and verified their equipment, lab partnerships, and implant supply chains. When a clinic like Maltepe Dental in Istanbul tells us "patients don't believe we're real until they walk through the door" — that's the problem we're solving.
We verify accreditation. JCI (Joint Commission International) accreditation is the gold standard — the same body that accredits US hospitals. We check ISO 9001 certification, Turkish Ministry of Health licensing, and verify these aren't expired or revoked. You don't need to do this yourself.
We verify implant brands. We confirm which brands each clinic uses and require documentation. Nobel Biocare, Straumann, and Medentika are FDA-cleared brands used worldwide. If a clinic uses unbranded or unknown implants, they don't make it onto the platform.
We check independent reviews. Not the testimonials on their own website — those are curated. We look at Google Reviews, Trustpilot, and dental tourism forums for patterns: how they handle complications, whether aftercare actually happens, whether quoted prices match final bills.
Written guarantees are required. Every clinic on MyDentalFly provides 5-10 year written guarantees on implant work. If the implant fails within that period, the clinic replaces it at no surgical cost. The guarantee is documented on the platform — not just a verbal promise.
The point isn't that you should trust us blindly. The point is that we've done the legwork that's impossible to do from 5,000 miles away — so you can make an informed decision based on verified data, not marketing.
Should Americans choose Turkey, Hungary, or Mexico?
Americans have three main options. Each has trade-offs.
Turkey (Istanbul, Antalya) — Largest dental tourism infrastructure. Hundreds of accredited clinics, English-speaking staff, direct flights from major US cities (11-12 hours). Best for full-mouth work. Prices are the lowest. No visa required for stays under 90 days.
Hungary (Budapest) — Popular with European patients but less established for Americans. Slightly higher prices than Turkey. Excellent clinical standards. Better for patients who want a European destination. Longer flight from the US (10+ hours with a connection).
Mexico (Tijuana, Los Algodones) — Geographic convenience is the main advantage. Drive across the border from San Diego or Phoenix. Prices vary wildly — some clinics are excellent, others are not. Less regulatory oversight than Turkey or Hungary. Best for patients who want to avoid flying.

How long does dental implant treatment abroad take?
Week 1-2: Complete your dental assessment — mark problem teeth, upload X-rays or photos, get treatment recommendations. Clinics review your case remotely.
Week 2-4: Receive treatment plans and pricing from 2-3 clinics. Compare side by side.
Month 2: Fly out for treatment. Most implant procedures take 3-5 days in clinic. Single implants are done in one visit. All-on-4 requires 5-7 days for lab work.
Month 5-6 (if needed): Return for permanent crowns. Some cases are completed in a single trip with immediate-load implants.
What about follow-up care after getting implants abroad?
This is the question Americans ask most. The answer: your US dentist handles it.
Any American dentist can monitor implant healing, check crown fit, and do routine follow-up. The implant brands used in Turkey are identical to those used in the US — Nobel Biocare and Straumann are global companies. Your local dentist will recognise the components immediately.
Bring your complete treatment records home. A good clinic provides:
- Full treatment summary with procedure codes
- X-rays (before and after)
- Implant brand certificates with serial numbers
- Written guarantee documentation
- Contact details for remote follow-up questions
"Communication was excellent before I arrived but follow-up after returning home was poor" — this is the most common complaint in dental tourism. Choose a clinic with a structured aftercare process, not just a WhatsApp number.
Red Flags to Watch For
These are the exact reasons we reject clinics from MyDentalFly. Directories like WhatClinic and Dental Departures list anyone who pays — they're advertising platforms, not quality filters. We're the opposite: fewer clinics, every one vetted.
- "We'll decide the implant brand when you arrive" — reputable clinics specify brands upfront. Every clinic on MyDentalFly must declare which implant brands they use before they're listed. If they can't, they're not on the platform.
- No written guarantee — if they won't put it in writing, they don't stand behind their work. We require 5-10 year written guarantees on implant work as a condition of listing.
- Pressure to book immediately — good clinics let you take time to decide. On MyDentalFly, you receive quotes from multiple clinics and compare side by side — nobody can pressure you because the comparison keeps them honest.
- All-inclusive packages that seem too cheap — if All-on-4 is offered for $3,000 including hotel and flights, something is being cut. Usually it's the implant quality. Our pricing data from 29 clinics shows the real range — so you know when a quote is suspiciously low.
- No before/after photos of their own patients — stock photos on a clinic website are meaningless. We verify case portfolios and check independent review platforms, not just what the clinic puts on its own site.
The difference between a directory and a platform: a directory profits from listing more clinics. We profit from successful treatments — which means we only want clinics that deliver.
The Bottom Line
If you need 2+ implants and you're paying out of pocket, dental implants abroad will save you thousands — potentially tens of thousands for full-arch work. The quality at accredited clinics matches or exceeds many US practices, using identical implant brands.
The key is choosing the right clinic, not just the cheapest one. Start by building your dental package to understand exactly what you need, then compare real clinic prices before making any decisions.

Why are US dental costs so much higher than abroad?
American dental costs are inflated by overhead that has nothing to do with clinical quality: malpractice insurance, real estate, dental school debt, lab fees, and administrative staff for insurance billing. A US dentist placing the exact same Nobel Biocare implant as a Turkish dentist pays 3-4x more in overhead before they even start.
This is not about quality — it is about economics. The implant is the same brand, the training is comparable, and the materials are identical. You are paying for the American cost of doing business.
Combining Treatment with Travel
Many American patients combine dental work with tourism. Turkey offers Istanbul (world-class history and food), Mexico has beach resorts near dental hubs, and Hungary has Budapest (thermal baths, architecture). Budget 2-3 extra days beyond your treatment schedule for recovery and sightseeing.
What implant brands are available abroad?
| Brand | Origin | Turkey | Mexico | Hungary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nobel Biocare | Sweden | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Straumann | Switzerland | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| MIS | Israel | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Osstem | South Korea | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Megagen | South Korea | Yes | Some | Some |
| Neodent | Brazil | Some | Yes | Some |
All three destinations stock the same premium brands used in US practices. Always confirm which specific brand your clinic will use — and get it in writing.
How do you decide which country is best for you?
| Factor | Turkey | Mexico | Hungary |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | Maximum savings | Proximity from border states | EU regulation |
| Single implant | $600-900 | $700-1,000 | $800-1,200 |
| All-on-4 | $5,000-7,000 | $6,000-8,000 | $7,000-10,000 |
| Flight from NYC | 10-11 hours | 4-5 hours | 8-9 hours |
| Visa needed | E-visa ($50) | No | No |
