Tijuana, Cancún, or Los Algodones? Real prices from $600/implant. Use our free treatment estimator to compare your total trip cost vs US prices.
Dental implants in the US cost ,000-,000 each. In Mexico, the same implant with the same brand costs -,500. If you live in a border state, you can drive to your appointment. No wonder 550,000 Americans crossed the border for dental work last year.
But Mexico's dental tourism scene ranges from world-class hospitals to one-room clinics. Here's what you need to know.
What Dental Implants Actually Cost in Mexico
These prices come from accredited clinics with English-speaking dentists. The absolute cheapest options in Mexico are lower, but those aren't the clinics you want.
Single Implant Pricing (USD)
| Component | Mexico Price | US Price |
|---|---|---|
| Implant post only (standard brand) | $600 - $900 | $1,500 - $2,500 |
| Implant post only (premium brand) | $900 - $1,200 | $2,000 - $3,500 |
| Abutment | $150 - $300 | $500 - $800 |
| Porcelain crown on implant | $250 - $450 | $800 - $1,500 |
| Total: single implant + crown (standard) | $800 - $1,500 | $3,000 - $5,000 |
| Total: single implant + crown (premium) | $1,200 - $2,000 | $3,500 - $6,000 |
Full-Arch and Multiple Implant Pricing (USD)
| Treatment | Mexico Price | US Price | Savings |
|---|---|---|---|
| All-on-4 (per arch, standard) | $8,000 - $10,000 | $20,000 - $28,000 | 58-64% |
| All-on-4 (per arch, premium) | $10,000 - $12,000 | $25,000 - $35,000 | 60-66% |
| All-on-4 (both arches, standard) | $15,000 - $18,000 | $38,000 - $52,000 | 60-65% |
| All-on-6 (per arch, standard) | $10,000 - $13,000 | $24,000 - $32,000 | 58-60% |
| 4 single implants + crowns | $3,200 - $6,000 | $12,000 - $20,000 | 70-73% |
| 6 single implants + crowns | $4,800 - $9,000 | $18,000 - $30,000 | 70-73% |
| Bone graft (per site) | $300 - $600 | $800 - $2,000 | 63-70% |
| Sinus lift | $1,000 - $1,800 | $2,500 - $5,000 | 60-64% |
What Your Quote Should Include
A proper implant quote covers:
- Initial consultation and examination
- Panoramic X-ray and/or 3D CBCT scan
- The implant post, abutment, and crown
- All surgical placement appointments
- Temporary restoration (if applicable)
- Follow-up appointments during your stay
What's typically extra: bone grafting, sinus lifts, extractions, sedation, hotel, and flights. If bone grafting is needed, you'll find out during your consultation scan.
Implant Brands: Why This Matters
The implant brand affects success rates and your options if you ever need parts replaced. Mexican clinics use the same brands as US practices.
Premium Brands
| Brand | Origin | Cost in Mexico | Why Choose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nobel Biocare | Sweden | $1,000 - $1,400 per implant | Most research (2,000+ published studies), global parts availability |
| Straumann | Switzerland | $1,000 - $1,300 per implant | Precision engineering, excellent for immediate loading |
| Zimmer Biomet | USA | $900 - $1,200 per implant | Strong bone integration technology |
Standard Brands
| Brand | Origin | Cost in Mexico | Why Choose |
|---|---|---|---|
| MIS | Israel | $650 - $850 per implant | Good quality-to-price ratio, widely used globally |
| Osstem | South Korea | $600 - $800 per implant | Largest implant company by volume worldwide |
| Neodent | Brazil | $700 - $900 per implant | Owned by Straumann, solid clinical evidence |
| BioHorizons | USA | $700 - $950 per implant | Laser-lok surface technology |
Premium brands cost $200-$400 more per implant but offer better long-term service options. If you move or need parts replaced, any dentist can work with Nobel Biocare or Straumann implants. Lesser-known brands may create compatibility headaches later.
For 1-4 implants: Pay extra for premium brands. The cost difference is minimal over a 20-year lifespan.
For full-arch cases: Standard brands like MIS or Osstem deliver excellent results at meaningful savings.
Where to Go: Tijuana vs. Los Algodones vs. Cancun
Tijuana
Travel: 20 minutes from San Diego. Park in San Ysidro and take clinic shuttle across the border.
Best area: Zona Rio - modern commercial district with medical facilities, restaurants, and hotels.
Stay duration:
- Single implant: 2-3 days
- Multiple implants: 3-5 days
- All-on-4: 5-7 days
Choose Tijuana if: You live in California, Arizona, or Nevada. You want maximum clinic options and sophisticated infrastructure.
Border crossing tip: SENTRI passes cut wait times from 1-3 hours to 10-15 minutes. Without SENTRI, cross early morning or late evening to avoid crowds.
Los Algodones
Travel: Walk across from Andrade, California. The dental district spans four blocks.
Prices: 10-20% cheaper than Tijuana, 20-30% cheaper than Cancun.
Stay duration:
- Single implant: 1-2 days
- All-on-4: 4-6 days
Choose Los Algodones if: Price is your top priority. You prefer small-town simplicity. You're coming from Arizona.
Stay in Yuma, Arizona (8 miles away) for US amenities and drive to the border daily.
Cancun
Travel: Direct flights from major US cities, 2.5-4 hours.
Best areas: Hotel Zone (upscale, pricier) or Centro (better value, downtown).
Stay duration:
- Single/multiple implants: 5-7 days
- All-on-4: 7-10 days
Choose Cancun if: You live on the East Coast. You want a vacation atmosphere during recovery. You're traveling with someone who wants beach time while you're getting dental work.
Expect 10-15% higher prices than Tijuana for the beach location and resort infrastructure.
The Step-by-Step Process
Before You Travel
Get assessed. Know exactly what work you need before getting quotes. A free assessment takes 15 minutes and gives you a treatment profile to share with clinics.
Compare clinics. Get quotes from at least three clinics. Look for itemised pricing and ask about implant brands specifically.
Check credentials. Verify your dentist's CONACER certification (Mexico's specialty board) and implant placement experience.
Send records. Email your X-rays and dental history 2-3 weeks ahead so the clinic can plan your treatment.
Your Appointment Schedule
Day 1: In-person consultation, 3D scan, treatment plan confirmation. If you need bone grafting, it gets identified now.
Day 2: Implant placement surgery. Takes 30-60 minutes per implant under local anesthesia. You'll feel pressure, not pain.
Days 3-4: Recovery. Swelling peaks on day 2-3. Stick to soft foods and prescribed medications.
Final day: Follow-up check, healing assessment, aftercare instructions.
For All-on-4 with immediate loading, you get temporary teeth the same day as surgery. Final prosthetic comes 4-6 months later.
After You Return
Schedule a US dentist follow-up within 2-4 weeks. They can monitor healing and address any concerns before you return to Mexico for crown placement.
If you chose two-stage implants, you'll return in 3-6 months for crown fitting (1-2 day trip).
Keep all your Mexican treatment records. Include implant brand, model numbers, and specifications. Your US dentist needs these if you ever need emergency care.
Insurance and Payment Options
US Dental Insurance
Most plans cap benefits at $1,000-$2,000 annually - barely covers one implant domestically. Some PPO plans reimburse out-of-network international treatment. Call your insurer and ask:
- "Do you cover out-of-network treatment in Mexico?"
- "What documentation do you need for international claims?"
- "Is the reimbursement rate different for international providers?"
HSA and FSA Funds
Both work for Mexican dental implants. The IRS considers implants qualified medical expenses regardless of location. Save all receipts and treatment records.
Payment Methods
Reputable clinics accept credit cards (gives you chargeback protection). Avoid clinics demanding cash or wire transfers only. Standard payment: 20-30% deposit to book, remainder paid during treatment.
Red Flags to Avoid
Price too good to be true: Implants under $600 total cost likely use no-name brands or cut corners on sterility protocols.
No X-ray review: Legitimate implant work requires imaging. Clinics offering quotes without seeing your X-rays are guessing.
Cash-only payment: Credit card acceptance shows business legitimacy and gives you recourse if problems arise.
No English-speaking staff: Communication errors in dental treatment can be costly and painful.
No specific implant brand mentioned: If a clinic won't tell you which implant brand they use, they're probably using generic implants.
The bottom line: Mexican dental implants can save you 60-70% compared to US prices when done by qualified dentists using quality materials. The key is choosing the right clinic, not just the cheapest one.

Choosing a Clinic You Can Trust
The quality gap in Mexico is wider than in Turkey or Hungary. Border town clinics compete on price, not quality. Resort city clinics are better but more expensive.
We've verified every clinic on our platform and removed eight across our network that didn't meet our standards. Most dental tourism directories list anyone who pays.
The implant brand comparison shows success rates and warranties across 13 brands — so you can verify exactly what a clinic is offering. The dental assessment builds your dental package and tells you what you need before anyone quotes you. And your dental tourism consultant coordinates everything, holding your deposit until you're satisfied.
